turkey

We have a history of letting food go bad in our refrigerator.

I picked up a piece of newspaper from the lawn the other day. I went to put it into our garbage container. Upon opening the lid, a swarm of flies flew out of the green container and into my face. Then a wave of thick stinkiness. I slammed the door down.

I said to the roommate, “there’s something rotting in the garbage.”

“I think it’s meat,” said he.

“Ah. I guess we should use the disposal for meat,” offered I.

“Yeah. What were you storing in there? A lung?” questioned he.

I chortled, but thought nothing of it. The ground turkey I had in a sandwich bag in the fridge had recently disappeared. That’s what I thought of, and then said this: “Hey, did you throw out some ground turkey that was in a baggie?”

“Yeah, it looked wrong.”

“I just thawed it Tuesday. I … was going to make turkey burgers today.”

So I’m going to buy good looking meat now. Nothing lungish.

… I'll take the box of rocks, please.

In a land far away there was a company. There were people who worked for the company and did a really good job. Then there were people who did not do a good job. In fact, they did this: diddley-squat.

Four people got a promotion. A promotion is what a company gives to a person when they want to keep them around a little bit longer. It is generally considered a good thing.

Of the four, three people did a really good job. Most of the company agreed: They deserved a promotion.

The other person, it was thought, did not deserve to be kept around a little bit longer. And, since there were a limited number of promotions available, this person took the promotion that someone else should have had.

At the end of the fray, the people who were promoted didn’t feel like it was a good thing. All except the undeserving one. This person called someone in the company, someone who deserved a promotion but did not get one. This person called the overlooked person to gloat. To gloat is to seek attention from someone else without considering that someone’s feelings.

It has been reported that if ever you enter a Team-based Quiz Show competition and must choose for your partner either A.) This person or B.) A Box of Rocks, you would be advised to choose B.

Without names, this doesn’t help you.
