New Orleans follow up!
Two items of interest related to my trip to New Orleans:
David Felder grew up in those parts. After looking at the photos at my website, (they’re gone now, but I’ll post them up here at Glimbit someday,) he had this to say:
Thanks for sharing….
I would offer up a few comments:
- That big body of water that you were talking about is probably Barataria Bay. I used to work there on boats when I worked in the oil field…that was also the hang out of the notorious privateer Jean Laffite.
- Speaking of the above, that pub in the photo (oldest in the U.S - the pub, not the photo) is called Laffite’s Blacksmith Shop. He used to own it and it is one of my favorites in the whole city.
- I know where that Voodoo Shop is that you went in. It’s right across the side street from Jackson Square. I was there in March and saw Girl Scouts selling cookies at the door. It seemed strangely inappropriate…
Thanks David!
I also heard this from Nicole’s (Nicole is Jen’s friend from Port Sulphur LA) brother, Jacob:
Hi, I am Hewitt’s son, Jacob. Nicole sent me your website so I could see the pictures of your trip to the ‘bayou’. I don’t get too many pictures of the family, because they’re not very up to date with modern technology. I am in the Marine Corps and stationed in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. It was a treat to see your pictures and I hope you enjoyed it there. Thanks, Jacob
This made my day, heck, my whole month.
