It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!
“It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” was on last night. I forgot about it and missed the first half. Might be time to get some sort of TV-Recording technology.
Snoopy runs around the neighborhood pretending he is a World War 2 pilot who’s plane went down behind enemy lines. I completely didn’t get that when I was a little kid. I was more WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON? WHY IS SNOOPY IN FRANCE? The music during those scenes felt very creepy.
As far as character design is concerned, I think Snoopy is a masterpiece. Simple design, but he can show a wide range of emotions. He is instantly recognizeable, even in silhouette. And he’s got that dang-blasted cuteness from all sides. Snoopy’s personality is unique too. He’s wide-eyed wonder boy with a streak of mischief. When he rises up to fool Linus as the Great Pumpkin, that gets a laugh out of me. (The picture above was borrowed from this website, which features a fine review of ITGP,CB!)
