October ‘07 at the Glimbit blog

Clarence the ImpA favorite gaming blog of mine, The Ancient Gaming Noob, features a summary of blog activity at the end of each month. That’s a fun idea, so let’s try it! I’ll shamelessly rip off his topics until I can come up with my own:

  • The Site
  • Most Popular Categories and Posts
  • Best Search Terms
  • Activity in Specific Topics
  • What’s Next?

The Site

October featured the most posts since February ‘07 when I started this new blog. Who can say why? *wink*

I added a feature that shows little screenshots of external websites when you hover over the link. It’s over on the “top commenters” and “links” sections on the right, and in the most popular posts section below. I also reactivated the Lightbox plugin which makes the screen darken and loads an image with title above the window. I don’t use it for everything, but I think it’s a convenient way to scroll through a collection of photos. I updated the header and footer with some new artwork, too.

The badge off to the right with the funny cat, that’s for “National Blog Posting Month.” Let’s see if I post at least once a day in November.

I’m considering spinning off my adventure/slice-of-life/photos posts into a separate personal blog and devoting blog.glimbit.com to posts about making art and my own work. My “How to Draw” posts have been the most popular by far, as we’ll see next!

Most Popular Categories

  • Inspirato > Cartoons and Comics
  • Making Stuff > Drawing
  • Sketchbook

Most Popular Posts

Comment: These are in terms of number of unique visits. Illustration Friday always drums up some good hits for me, but the drawing posts I made last Spring are still the most commonly visited posts. Great to see that figure drawing is in demand. If I can find a good session out here in MA, I’ll post more.

Best Search Terms

  • red sox and sneeze
  • photoshop destroys childhood dreams
  • drawing of a jelly sandwich

Inspirato

I posted quite a bit in the “inspiration” category. My personal favorite and one that I still refer to often is the “Team Fortress 2” post. I’m still inspired by the design of that game.

Adventures

I moved to Boston, MA, USA in October. New England is beautiful and the Red Sox did well this year (understatement?). As a result, many a photo has been taken and posted. As I mentioned earlier, I may move stuff like this somewhere else.

What’s Next?

November will be a crazy month, with it being “National Novel Writing Month” and “National Blog Posting Month.” I’m shooting for posting a sketch or other piece of artwork each day in November. I’ll also work on some more “How to Draw” -type posts.

The main goal is to finish up the portfolio website and continue to build up some kind of freelance illustration business. I probably won’t post much about the business side of things, even though I know that would be a popular topic. Currently, I’m too green to provide insight.

NaBloPoMo? That’s hilarious. And I love the insane-looking kitty.

If you can do both NaBloPoMo and NaNoWriMo, you are truly a demigod.

The only way I could even consider such a thing is if I quit my job and had a sugar momma to pay the rent….

You’re a cruel one, J-Dub.

There’s not much to NaBloPoMo, just posting everyday. I planned to post a sketch-a-day anyway, so.

And so far, I’m nowhere near a healthy word count in nanowrimo.

November should be interesting.
