John Krasinski - warm-up sketch

sketch of John Krasinski

John Krasinski (Jim from “The Office”,) 11/15/07

Drawn in “H” lead that my scanner had a hard time picking up. I don’t really prefer harder leads. Give me a nice, squishy, fat, dark lead, please. Like those in most Bic 0.7mm pencils, my current favorite.

But I bought a big pack of “H” leads, so.

Nice sketch! Appropriate look on his face, very cool. Woot! It’s on tonight, one of the funniest shows eh-vah. I too shy away from the harder leads. HB is as hard as I’ll go and that’s only for really finished work. I usually sketch with a 2B or just sketch directly in the computer with a broad, squishy brush. I find that it makes shapes more spontaneous and free for me, which I like initially in a sketch.

I really like the sharp line quality on Jim here, but then I’ve always been a fan of harder leads. I tend to apply too much pressure, so a 2B is flat in 2 seconds for me. Then there’s no point to it. :P
I like me some H, HB, and B best of all. I’ve also been known to favor 2H and 3H.
