Ink studies of a young student and an old violinist

Ink studies of a young student and an old violinist

Student and Violinist, ink on watercolor paper, 3/13/08

My next project has to do with old ghost stories, so I’m trying an ink style that will hopefully produce a look of spooky Noir.

Dude…that is freakin awesome. Love the scratchy, sketchy style of these studies. As a matter of fact I hope you’re considering the final look to be just like this. Would give you that creepy feel that you’re looking for!

What are you using for this? Brush? Brush pen? Great stuff, can’t wait to see more of this.

You’ll have to tap into your inner Mignola for all that nice positive/negative work! Check out the old Weird Science, Tales of Horror, etc. stuff if you haven’t already for inspiration. Wally Wood and his EC comic crew were just unbelievable!

I love that EC stuff, and I’ve been collecting a lot of images from that and other horror comics.

One of my favorite blogs is “The Horrors of It All.” Check out “Special on Beat Soup.”

Thanks for the vote of confidence, man! I’m using a nib (Hunt no. 2) and a brush (Windsor Newton Series 7 #2) on watercolor paper, which gives it that rough, dry-brush look.
