Mythos Wizard - ink drawings

Mythos Wizard - pen/brush and ink

A Wizard of the Mythos
pen/brush and ink, 4/10/08

Here’s a side by side comparison of the two different techniques I used on this illustration. The one on the right reads better at a smaller size.

Placing the ink drawing on the left on top of the wash drawing on the right gives it an interesting look, kind of like a dollar bill engraving. It goes to crap when it’s reduced down, though.

Which version do you like better?

I’m really diggin’ the one on the left, the straight up ink drawing, better than the other. It’s got a certain life to it that the wash doesn’t. Perhaps some more effects around her hand as she traces the shape in the air? A little more magic some’in some’in? Just a thought. My favorite part is her belt and below that…all those unfinished edges are really interesting and I think that your tone and variety of stroke set that section apart more.

Keep crankin’ them out my friend, these are great!

I think some white/black confetti around the magic stuff would have helped. Good idea!

I combined the two illustrations in my portfolio. It looks somewhat like an engraving, I think. A bit strange.

Jeez. I love them both. I’m a real fan of pen & ink, but the wash works really well.
