Outside of the Box
9/28/07
I am exactly halfway through my final two weeks at Big Company. While I am overjoyed to be moving on to something new, this seems like as good a time as any to reflect back on the last seven years. What did we learn? What did we like most? Least? Tell us about a time when we turned a weakness into a strength…
Obviously, a post that promises to reflect on seven years of corporate service won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. So, in summary:
That was fun, but back at it.

The rest is just a long, drawn-out version of that.

Green Lantern Kyle Rayner

Kyle’s been having a rough go of it in the Sinestro Corps War. He’s the latest vessel for Parallax. Besides giving him bad teeth, Parallax has made him homicidal. I’m hoping DC doesn’t do anything drastic to old Kyle, like dying or death. I like Hal Jordan, but Kyle is the coolest Green Lantern of all.
- He was a small-time illustrator before he became a Green Lantern.
- He’s kind of powerful, like, he can resurrect the dead.
- He was co-created by a CCAD teacher of mine, Daryl Banks.
More of the cel animation look for me. If you’re following along, yes I re-purposed the Spaceman Guy drawing. Felt like getting right into the inking/coloring today.
In DC’s “The Sinestro Corps War” crossover, each Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps issue juggles multiple alien characters who wield power rings, either green or yellow, engaged in an epic battle. One of my favorites of these aliens is this big guy, Kilowog.

I’ve been anxious to kick-start my comic portfolio with some new work as well as get back into Illustration Friday, so I’m afraid I can only loosely associate this with this week’s I.F. word, “juggle.”
Out of necessity, I inked this using Illustrator CS2. I may never go back to pens! An inking tutorial at DaniDraws.com helped me get started.
(Have you seen Dani Draws.com? A doggone excellent source of art/cartooning-related tutorials, tips and info. Here’s a great tutorial on using digital textures - keep those illustrations from looking too Photoshopped.)
I’m getting into a traditional cel animation look. If I can improve my speed, I’ll try to produce some comic pages like this.
- Check out Green Lantern Corps (vol. 2) #15 for Kilowog’s big fight in the Sinestro Corps War.
